Our actions

We found our daily life in the Amazon forest on a few concepts:

  • Cultural exchange

We would like to preserve and promote the Shipibo culture through cultural exchanges with the people of Nueva Betania community. Their artistic creativity and the relationship they have with the environment are at the core of our exchanges.

We would like to share their cosmic vision and way of life but also to introduce them to green development alternatives in stade of the methods they are currently seeing around them. We spend time together playing music, sport, trying our hand at traditional crafts or simply chating among friends, young or old .

  • In harmony with nature

We want to live a natural, simple and independent way of life, which respects the environment and the indian traditions. We sow, reforest, harvest and love the forest, our source of life.

We use tecnics of agro forestry in the wood and we have an organic and sustainable type of agriculture, with no use of chemicals in any of our fields, vegetable or botanical gardens, as it is the case for all the members of the community.

We want to minimize as much as possible the environmental and social impact that may be caused by the arrival of a group of foreigners in the community. We attempt to process or recycle our waste as far as possible.

  • Healthy living

We eat local, seasonal food, mainly what we can get from the forest, the river, our fields and vegetable garden. Our food is mainly composed of fish, rice, root vegetables, vegetables, seeds and fruits, and all of this is prepared on a wood fire!

We love enjoy of relaxing moments but also turn to intense physical effort, indispensable when you live in the wood, and which allow us to stay healthy.

  • Herbal Medicine

Most diseases can be treated with herbal medicine which is our main path to recovery. We try to learn as much as we can about plants, herbs and their properties not only as a cure, but also to prevent illness.

The traditional Shipibo medicine is so huge that we never stop discovering new herbs and learning about new remedies.

We also heal with plants and herbs which come from other parts of Peru, mainly from the Andes.

  • Art

Art is part of our daily life. We enjoy creating necklaces, bracelets, earrings and dream catchers with materials from our region (seeds, fibers, feathers, barks, …). We mix Shipibo's art with Peruvian 's art from the Andes which allow us to experiment and develop our creativity. We also appreciate drawing and painting cosmovisión of the Shipibo people and the landscape from the Selva. Those activities make us grow as person as well as a group. We like to meet us at night to play music with all kind of instruments (flute, guitare, percution, quena, bombo, …)  along the river or at home under our familial mosquito net.
