Nueva Betania

Nueva Betania is a native Shibipo community settled along the river Alto Ucayali in the province of Coronel Portillo, in the Ucayali region, on the border with  Brazil. From Pucallpa, it takes a 4 to 5 hour trip on the river by “peke peke” (a boat) to reach the community.

The community covers 2000 hectares and the village is about 100 Shibipo families. Its population lives from agriculture, mainly bananas, fishing and hunting. The women are in charge of the craft industry. The community was founded in 1970 by some Evangelist families: the Tangao, the Lopez and the Valles who obtained at the same time the ownership of their lands.

The village is all smiles and life, it radiates magic and dreams.
